Drum Vocabulary

As with any domain, music and drums have their own unique vocabulary words. Some words apply to most instruments, while others are unique to drummers. Some words are technical and academic, while others are words or phrases one will hear use colloquially.
Colloquialisms:
groove - a particular drum beat or feel
lick - a small passage of music
hits/punches - parts of a song where many instruments play at the same time, often powerfully
cat - a person who plays an instrument
click - a metronome, or met
General music:
dynamics - volumes and relative volumes
tempo - overall speed
Drummer words:
sticking - specific order of hits with right and left sticks
flam - a sound technique created by two sticks hitting very slightly apart
